Harrison and Sarah with their four children

How it started

We were on a trip to Florida with our four children when we asked, "What is one thing we could learn more about as a family this year?"

Our youngest daughter said:

"I'd like for us to learn and talk more about God."

Wow. I kept thinking about her answer. How could we help our children not just learn more about God, but become fascinated by who He is?

I love storytelling. I love getting real mail. And I believe discovering God should be full of wonder.

So Letters About God was born: a year of adventure letters designed to help children discover just how amazing God is.

Discoveries

Every letter is written by Aiden, a fictional artist and explorer who is always noticing something new about the world around him. A birthday cake. A hiding place. An apple cut open at a farmers market.

Each adventure leads to one surprising discovery about God, grounded in Scripture and written so a child can understand and remember it. Over one year, children collect 24 discoveries about God's greatness and goodness, and hopefully begin looking for more themselves.

  • God has never had a birthday.
  • God never needs to travel. He is already there.
  • God knows how many times you will hiccup in your life.
  • Before there were apples, butterflies, or oceans, God thought of them.
  • God doesn't run away from a mess.

Discoveries made by hand

Every letter begins by hand. Jessica, our illustrator, sketches each adventure in pencil before bringing it to life with pen and colored pencils.

We could make them faster another way. But we want every letter that arrives in a child's mailbox to feel like something made by a real person, especially for them. Something worth keeping.
